Gwyntie van Tuyl Weswick, owner and principal designer of Emerge Design, partnered with Urban Bonfire’s design specialists and local dealer partner Coastal Living to create this vibrant yet comfortable outdoor kitchen and entertaining space in Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia.

“The homeowners loved contrasting palettes with dark features and white and wood tones, which flow from the interior rooms into the natural outdoor environment,” explains van Tuyl Weswick. “Like the rest of the home, the outdoor space was creatively planned for large gatherings and offers multiple areas for play and recovery.”

While the outdoor space is large, it is thoughtfully planned out. The homeowners, a couple with children who enjoy hosting friends and family, requested a functional home-away-from-home for all kinds of gatherings. This vision was realized with designated areas for various activities, including a pool, hot tub, covered lounge space, and fire pit.

Careful consideration was given to the layout, materials and colors for the outdoor kitchen. Following the homeowner’s desire to entertain, a long kitchen run sits between the covered seating area and additional bar-height chairs, allowing the cook to mingle with guests. Surrounded by lush forest, the property incorporates native hardscapes into the living area. The homeowners selected Urban Bonfire cabinetry in an Onyx finish to complement the earthy, dark colors and to ensure durability. The kitchen run is complete with a sink, refrigeration, a large grill and ample storage space for all cooking and entertaining essentials.
